This bread pudding I like to do as leftovers, eg if the bread is already nearing Verfallssdatum. The casserole is quick and no hassle - but tastes delicious.
8 slices of toast (I use whole wheat toast)
a little white wine or broth
cooked ham (8 slices or more)
4 eggs separated,
200 g grated cheese (I use middle-aged Gouda)
100 ml cream or milk
Salt, pepper, nutmeg, paprika
Stiff beat egg whites with a pinch of salt and place in the refrigerator. Toast the bread and moisten with broth or wine. Cover the toast with ham and layer in a baking dish. Egg yolks with cream or milk and stir the cheese and season. The stiffly beaten egg whites into the mixture. Pour the mixture over the toast at 220 degrees and top / bottom heat bake for 30 minutes.
Serve with a mixed salad of course best.
